Farewell Jenna Lowe, you will be missed

It always brings us great sadness to mention the passing of a courageous and outstanding person. After months of recovering from a double lung transplant, Jenna Lowe, 20, passed away yesterday.

In 2012, Jenna was diagnosed with a rare medical disease known as Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. This version of hypertension is extremely life-threatening and gets worse with time. There are treatments available to manage the disease, but there is no cure for it. Jenna was 17 when she was diagnosed with this disease.

Over time, she got worse, but that didn’t stop her or her family from generating awareness about the disease and organ donation. You see, Jenna needed new lungs as PAH directly impacts the arteries in the lung. During her search for new lungs, Jenna started the ‘Get me to 21’ campaign. The main purpose of the campaign is to get people, locally and internationally, to sign up for organ donation.

Last year we had the privilege to speak to Jenna Lowe and her family. Take a look at the interview here:

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lowe family. Rest in peace Jenna, we will miss you.
