3 Reasons why you’re NOT losing weight

You’ve stuck to your training for three months, but you’re still not fitting into your favourite jeans. We know how frustrating this is, but there are certain things that you need to either change or combine in order to lose weight.

Here are three of the most common reasons why you’re struggling to banish the bulk.

1. You aren’t doing enough exercise

So, what is enough exercise? If you’re struggling for time, 30 minutes of exercise per day is enough. But it needs to:

  • Be uninterrupted. If you are at the gym, leave your phone in your locker
  • Be able to raise your heart rate in order for you to burn calories
  • Be fun, so that you’ll stick to your exercise plan

If you aren’t a fan of the gym, why not try jogging or power-walking in the nearby park.

2. You aren’t placing enough importance on your diet

As much as you’d like to believe it, exercise alone is not enough to help you shed the kilos. You need to combine it with a healthy diet.

A nutritionist will be able to calculate your exact calorie requirements and then structure an eating plan that is tailored for weight loss.

Aim for a personal weight loss goal that you know you can stick to until you reach it. Start with a small, weekly goal such as: cutting out fizzy drinks; the first hurdle is always the most difficult. Each week you can increase your goals. Consistency is the key.

3. Medical conditions

You may be doing everything right: exercising regularly and following a healthy diet. However, there are certain medical conditions that have weight gain as a symptom. These are commonly metabolic disorders such as hypothyroidism and insulin resistance. It’s best to ask your doctor to check for any of these common conditions.

Remember that mental health conditions such as chronic stress and depression can also prevent weight loss.
Consistent weight loss, even in small amounts, is a significant achievement. So, keep going and stick to your goals.
