  1. Teach vs test

Before you even start, you need to look at HOW you study. In most cases you probably look at a text book and prepare for a test. We want you to change that mind-set. Instead of tests, think teach. Study something like you’re expected to teach it to someone else. When you think of it this way, you’ll have a better understanding of the subject and be more likely to remember it.

  1. Making it routine

Once you start studying (and make this sooner rather than later) you need to work on turning it into a routine. What do we mean by that? Study every day, at the same time, for the same amount of time. If you’re free every day between 5pm and 6pm, study for that hour every day. Studies show that by making it routine, your brain remembers stuff more easily. Writing down your study material helps you retain that information, but reading it out aloud is even better. And do you know what’s even better than that? Doing both! By reading and writing your material, you create a new way for your brain to recall that information. You remember by sight, sound and feeling.

Who would’ve thought that sitting in a new spot would help you study better? Turns out that simply sitting somewhere different to your usual perch really helps jog your memory. What’s the best place to study? Outside! And don’t just change your location, change up the material. Reading different views on the same topic makes it easier for you to retain the information.

By following these simple tips, your studying can be a lot easier. There’s no shortcut to studying, and certainly no magic memory pill, but we know that you’ll turn out on top if you work hard for it!
