Michael Schumacher will receive muscle therapy

Formula One Legend Michael Schumacher, who is now entering his fifth week in a medically induced coma, will soon receive muscle training to prevent muscle atrophy. This kind of exercise is usually given to people who are bed ridden or in a coma. Its purpose is to prevent muscle mass from withering away after long periods of neglect. Lying in bed all day makes the muscles “lazy” and, over time, will begin to weaken.

Doctors fear that Schumacher will remain in a vegetative state for the remainder of his life, even if he recovers and wakes up. According to Jean-Marc Orgogozo, a neurology professor at the University of Bordeaux in France, the longer a person stays in a coma, the less likely they are to recover.
