Tributes and condolences have been pouring in, especially on social media sites, for Isidingo star Lesego Motsepe, who passed away in her home in Randburg on Monday.
In a statement, Motsepe’s family said she was found by her brother Moemise Motsepe at about 11am on Monday morning, and paramedics confirmed her death a few hours later.
Motsepe publicly announced her HIV status on World Aids Day in 2011 to help fight the stigma around people living with the illness, and she also worked as an Aids ambassador for many years, educating children in different communities.
Interviewed by Dr Michael Mol on the Hello Doctor Show in 2013, Lesego spoke passionately about ridding HIV of stigma, and about dignity and hope.
From all of Hello Doctor: Lesego, thank you for your courage – for putting a beautiful face to an ugly disease and being a light of hope for so many. Though that light has gone out, and gone out too soon – we’ll always remember the flame in your heart, the sparkle in your eyes and the warmth of your presence … and we’ll miss you.
