Texting while driving – More dangerous than drunk driving!

It’s official – texting while driving is more dangerous than drunk driving.

We all know that driving under the influence of alcohol or marijuana is a bad idea. It seriously delays your reaction time, and there’s a much greater chance of having an accident. As it turns out though, texting while driving is even more dangerous, and can delay your reaction time by nearly 50%!

In South Africa, heavy fines are already handed out for drivers who are caught texting or talking on their phone, and now campaigners in the UK are calling for the penalty to be raised to match the drink-driving punishment – which is an automatic one year ban and a fine. Should South Africa introduce a similar punishment? What’s your take?
